There are so many different rhythms to the life we live. There are tidal rhythms, lunar rhythms, the rhythms of the season, night and day, light and darkness, the rising and setting of the sun, and even the rhythm of our breath and heartbeat. The Sanskrit word for this is “Ritam,” which essentially means “I am awake to the rhythms of life.”
When we are in rhythm, we are in purpose. When we are in purpose, we show up present, passionate, open-hearted, loving and patient. This is our true nature.
But let’s be honest. There are many old habits, patterns of thinking, technology distractions (social media) and even people that are constantly trying to throw us off rhythm. There is a lot of noise out there and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. So we must be the change. It’s up to us to “make shift happen”.
Anytime you’re in a funk or out of rhythm, simply just pause, breathe, get quiet and ask yourself these two questions:
- What in my life feels light and expands my body?
- What feels heavy and is weighing me down?
And then use this simple rhythm meditation to rediscover your rhythm:
- Inhale: Breathe in the blessings, tools, gratitude, and gifts of flow.
- Exhale: Let go of all the barriers, blockages and things in the way.
These two questions and short meditation can be a great “pattern interrupt” to prevent us from going down those dark roads of stress, fear and anxiety. It’s all about awareness and noticing when it’s happening. And the more we practice awareness (meditation, yoga, and mindfulness), the quicker we can stop the story we are telling ourselves and come back to our truth.
I hope this inspiration helps you continue to find your flow!
“The rhythm that flows outside of you also flows within you.”
